Used gun prices by Iowans

Why is it that the used prices on guns people are trying to sell are so freakin' high? I often look at the listings on armslist or gunlistings.com , and I am shocked when people try to sell their used guns at prices higher than I can often purchase the gun new for.

Is it because guns often are so expensive at some Iowa stores initially?

Don't really think so. I've noted that reloader equipment and supplies have gotten a bit more pricey, over the last year. primers have increased over 10%, themselves. Powder has increased some, as has brass. A lot of the actual equipment is costing way more than it did a year ago. And, yes, I've seen quite a few items priced higher than you can buy them for new. In some cases, used stuff has been priced higher than readily available new stuff. Also, I think that some of it is being caused by opportunists that are just trying to make a buck off of the ill educated. A lot of people seem to think that what they have is worth pure gold, while what everyone else has is pure junk. EBAY is real bad in this regard. Craig's list varies, but a lot of overpricing there too.

Yeah, I can find such better deals on new/used guns just shipping them from a dealer out-of-state if someone local doesn't have them. I like to buy local when I can, but prices are so high at the one dealer I know of in Marshalltown, I usually look around elsewhere.

Theres a little shop in Ankeny. They are a "ma and pop" shop that usually are fairly well priced.
