People don't always just fall down after being shot. In fact, people may take a center-of-mass shot and have no idea what happened to them, then keel over some time later.

Yeah, I remember hearing a podcast about a shooting on a military base where people wrote the local newspapers and complained that the murderer was shot/killed without police first trying to shoot the gun out of his hand.
