LEO, or not, I still fail to see how someone can shoot themselves while cleaning a gun. The first thing that you ALWAYS do is to clear the weapon. And, you NEVER reload it until after you are done cleaning it.

This reminds me of a couple of incidents that happened at an un-named central Iowa pd. The police station has an internal stairwell going from the main floor to the basement. In that stairwell is a somewhat reflective window. An officer on 3rd watch is walking down the stairwell, sees his reflection in the window and decides to draw against it. He got a bit carried away and actually pulled the trigger. OOps!! Nobody hurt, but lots of embarrassment. The second incident was when the department was just starting to go from revolvers to autos. It was decided that some, additional, special training was needed after an officer shot his own hand while on the range.
