Beats me why they put a safety on it. It is a double action only, striker fired, same as the M&P and the M&Pc.
After carrying the FS and compact with no thumb safety I would not want to have a safety to mess with when I am forced to carry the pocket pistol. I will stick with my Kel-Tec P3AT until S&W offers the Shield without a thumb safety. (My training/practice is in no safety mode.)

I believe the safety can be removed....i could be wrong It will be interesting to find out if it can be removed. I'm surprised the lawers don't have the manufactures putting thumb safetys on revolvers.
