I am sure reloaders hate them, because I understand they cannot be reloaded.
With prices of metals being expensive, do you see it as a natural progression that many companies will start moving to steel-cased ammo? We have things like Tula sold at Wal-Mart. The prices on that are pretty cheap. I wonder if more US ammo-makers will have to go that route to compete?
Thoughts?

Even Hornady is making steel cased ammo these days, I would just be careful of the foreign stuff as they are now using steel on some projectiles and they are prohibited at some ranges etc.
Steel cases are going to be harder than brass cases and could be tougher on extractors. It's also lacquer coated and in some cases it has been seen that the lacquer builds on in the chamber and can start getting cooked onto the gun.
I don't know that I'd call the the Devil, if it suits budgetary needs I'm all for it, but will continue to shoot brass for as long as I can.

I shoot steel cased ammo, but only in my Russian AK and Chinese SKS rifles.
I don't shoot steel case ammo out of my Glock 9mm or my R-15 AR.

From discussing this issue with my gunsmith, he states "Give it to your enemy". I purchased some 223 when I first purchased my Colt AR. I had a couple of jams or failure to eject (FTE), and found out through my gunsmith that it can actually ruin the tighter tolerance chambers by causing scoring in the chamber. I had to have one case pressed out of the chamber. Good for my SKS and AK though. As rwyllie stated, I wouldn't shoot in my "good" weapons. All good advise. But don't forget plated steel bullets. 7 years ago I shot the riflings out a Sigma 40 with Wolf bullets. The bullet could be picked up with a magnet.

In most cases, this stuff can be reloaded. However, it is more work and harder on the reloading equipment, so I don't know if it's worth it. Haven't tried any of this myself, Just going from what I have heard from others. If I get a chance to get my hands on some steel cases that have been shot, I'll give it a try and let you guys know what happens.
