Unfortunately, not a Koren era vet. Fortunately, I already have a Garrand. But I would sure like to get my hands on a Carbine. That's what I was trained on in the Air Force. Just for the sake of nostalgia.

Thought i read somewhere... "no carbines."
When you say '"carbine", what do you mean? What are the differences?

The M1 Garrand is a full sized Battle Rifle that shoots 30-06 rounds. The M1 Carbine is smaller, lighter and shoots a smaller 30 cal straight walled round. Yes, it said no carbines. That's because you can insert a magazine (originally 10 rounds, but you can use a 30 round mag). The Garrand uses what is called an "enblock" clip and is limited to 8 rounds. So, the powers that be have decided that a weapon that shoots a 30-06 round, has an effective range of 1 mile (more or less), and can be fired on a sustained basis nearly as fast as the carbine (the enblock clip can be loaded into the weapon far faster that a standard clip) is less dangerous than a weapon with a lot less range and maybe 1/3 the power. Don't ask me why..
